The MEC Development Fund was launched in November 2013. The Fund was aimed at supporting local civil society organisation to deliver education services outside of the formal government education system as well as advocacy and policy influence initiatives.
MEC received 153 eligible expressions of interest after sharing the information about the funding opportunity at six regional information sessions across Myanmar. 16 organisations were invited to submit full proposals and by April 2014 13 contracts had been awarded. MEC made a commitment to provide three-year project funding to partners based on performance. MEC and the partners also signed a partnership memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that set out the principles and parameters to guide the partnership.
The 13 partner organisations started year one of their partnership projects in June 2014 and will complete year three at the end of May 2017.
The Development Fund is now closed and there is no plan to re-open it for competitive bidding in the future.
