Donors

The Myanmar Education Consortium (MEC) operates in a similar manner to a multi-donor pooled fund; in addition to providing funding, all donors contribute towards the overall strategic direction, as well as annual operating plans and procedures.

The program continues to advocate for increased funding across complementary education and is open and welcoming to new donors to support the overall objectives of MEC. The program is designed with a flexible strategy, subject to regular reviews and can be amended to increase the scale and scope, and hence the overall scale of impact of the program, in line with resourcing available.

MEC is housed by Save the Children. The MEC Director reports to a Steering Committee currently comprised of representatives from donor governments and Save the Children. The Steering Committee is responsible for strategic oversight and support to the program and Save the Children is responsible for providing technical, managerial and administrative support to the program. The arrangements allow MEC to benefit from being part of an established and well-respected organization, both nationally and internationally, while also allowing a flexible arrangement where donors are able to play a key role in the strategic oversight in the program.

Currently in its third phase (2021-2025), MEC is supported by the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), and the American people through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
